5e character builder step by step
Hackers and Riggers are often quite skill intensive (Skills priority C or B) while most Muscle, Face and Magicians a bit less so (Skill priority D or C). Muscle and Face enhanced by adept powers often end up somewhere in between (Magic or Resonance priority D, C or B). Mundane (augmented by tech rather than Magic or Resonance) Muscle, Face, Hacker and Riggers are normally mundane and normally don't prioritize magic at all (Magic and Resonance priority E). Magicians as well as Technomancers often prioritize Magic or Resonance above all else (Magic or Resonance priority B or A). No matter what character you are building, a lot of people seem to go for higher Attribute priority (Attributes priority C, B or A). If you want to play an Orc Face, Dwarf Rigger or an Elven Hacker, then you should 100% do it! You should not only look at min/max mechanics when picking metatype. Face characters and shamanistic magicians often prioritize a more charismatic metatype (such as elf, priority D or C) while Hermetic Magicians instead might prioritize a character with higher willpower (such as Dwarf C or D). Having said that, in some cases muscle might want to prioritize a metatype that is a bit more sturdy and stronger (such as Orc or Dwarf, priority C or B or even Troll, priority B or even A). Human (priority E) is a metatype that fit any role.
Metatype priority also come with special attribute points that can only be spend on Magic, Resonance and/or Edge which can be used to complement or balance Magic or Resonance priority later. Elves are agile and more charismatic, Orcs and Trolls are stronger and bigger but dumber and less social, Dwarves are stronger and have higher willpower but are slower. You have 5 letters (A, B, C, D and E) that you need to distribute among 5 categories (Metatype, Attribute, Magic or Resonance, Skills and Resources).ĭifferent Metatypes (Races) have different minimum and maximum attribute ratings. Step two is where you select your priorities.
The Charismatic Shaman (medicine lodges, wilderness and chanting - reagents in the shape of teeth, feathers etc) The Logical Hermetic Mage (circles of power, laboratories and libraries- reagents in the shape of gems, wrought iron etc) MAGICIAN (+utility spells and magical support)

You could also look at the example in the core book where they create three different characters. Characters are created by following the nine steps.
